Jan purposely breaks with conventional styles and throws strict design rules overboard, and his new Spacecrafted collection is no different.

Inspiration
Jan Kath’s initial interest in Space came during his travels in the Himalayas. Far away from the light pollution of the city, Jan became fascinated by the night sky, and all the amazing things he could see in the heavens above. Later in his career, the shots taken by the Hubble Space Telescope laying bare the majestic splendor, colour and opulence of space drove his fascination further, eventually becoming the muse behind his incredible Spacecrafted Collection.
Jan says...
“For years I had wanted to use the images of this awe-inspiring stellar spectacle in my textile work but only now, with fifteen years experience and a huge pool of expertise are we technically in a position to produce these images in the highest resolution. The result is photo-realistic and quality of this kind has never before been achieved on the market.”
Expertise
Just like a pixel in a digital photograph, each individual knot in this spacecrafted collection has to be added and inspected and perfectly colour matched. There are between 150 and 200 knots in every square inch of rug and up to 60 colours are used to reproduce the most subtle of asteroid nebulae and delicate gas clouds. What results is a carpet with a third dimensional aspect that takes beholders on an incredible journey. Both amazing technical skills and the finest of raw materials play a central role in achieving such a perfect result. A high percentage of Chinese silk and hand-carded and handspun Tibetan highland wool is used in the collection. The material mix contributes to the fact that the designs possess unique power and depth. The collection conveys a sense of wanderlust, desire, and adventurous spirit and – from a technical perspective – it represents a departure into a new carpet dimension.
